Premium IEC 61111 & ASTM D178 Electrical Rubber Mats in Kuwait for High-Voltage Safety

Electrical installations across Kuwait are governed by the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy through its MEW/R-1 and MEW/S-1 technical specifications. Both documents require all electrical materials and equipment to comply with IEC as the primary standard, with British Standards as a secondary option. For insulating mats used in switchgear rooms, substation operator areas, and HT and LT control panels, IEC 61111:2009 is the applicable standard governing voltage class, material composition, dielectric test requirements, and marking.

Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) operates the upstream exploration and production network across the north and south fields. KNPC runs three refineries each with extensive electrical infrastructure. KIPIC operates the Al-Zour complex, one of the region’s largest integrated petroleum sectors. EQUATE and the broader Shuaiba Industrial Area host petrochemical operations with large electrical maintenance requirements. New Kuwait Vision 2035, which includes Silk City, Boubyan Island Port, Mutlaa City, and South Saad Al-Abdullah City, is driving substantial new construction and infrastructure electrical demand across the country.

Our electrical insulating mats are type-tested to IEC 61111:2009 and ASTM D178 across Class 0 to Class 4, covering working voltages from 1.0 kV to 36.0 kV. The IEC 61111:2009 range is the standard specification for MEW-governed projects and most Kuwaiti industrial and government installations. ASTM D178 mats are available for oil and gas project specifications and international contractor standards referencing American norms. Both ranges are manufactured from elastomers free from any insertion, are flame retardant, and are rated for the working temperatures of air-conditioned electrical rooms standard across Kuwait’s utility and industrial facilities.

Applications of Electrical Rubber Mat in Kuwait

Electrical insulating mats are required wherever operators work near live equipment at system voltage. Kuwait’s combination of extreme heat, high humidity, and sand exposure makes certified, climate-tested electrical safety equipment a practical as well as a regulatory requirement. Duratuf electrical insulating mats are used across the following installation types in Kuwait:

  • MEW transmission and distribution substations across Kuwait City, Ahmadi Governorate, and regional networks
  • Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) field electrical control rooms and switchgear areas across north and south field operations
  • KNPC refinery electrical maintenance areas at Mina Al-Ahmadi, Mina Abdullah, and Shuaiba refineries
  • KIPIC Al-Zour integrated petroleum complex switchgear and MCC rooms
  • EQUATE and Shuaiba Industrial Area petrochemical plant HT and LT control panels
  • New Kuwait 2035 infrastructure projects including Silk City, Boubyan Island Port, and Mutlaa City construction utilities
  • Kuwait International Airport Terminal 2 expansion and ground operations electrical infrastructure
  • Government and commercial building services across Kuwait City, Salmiya, and Hawalli
  • Industrial zone facility electrical panels in Shuaikh, Ardiya, and Fahaheel industrial areas.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Every order includes a type-test certificate confirming compliance with IEC 61111:2009 or ASTM D178, a product datasheet, and labelled packaging with product code, voltage class, and dimensions. These documents are suitable for MEW project submittals, EHS audits, and oil sector project documentation requirements.

Our IEC 61111:2009 mats perform reliably within the working temperature range of air-conditioned electrical rooms, which is the standard operating environment across MEW substations, refinery control rooms, and industrial facilities in Kuwait. The mats are manufactured from elastomers free from any insertion and are tested for low-temperature performance at -25°C and for ageing resistance at 70°C.

Recommended thickness is determined by voltage class. For IEC 61111:2009 mats, the standard recommended thicknesses are: Class 0 and Class 1: 2.0 mm, Class 2:3.0 mm, Class 3:  4.0 mm, Class 4: 5.0 mm. Custom thicknesses up to 14 mm are available for specific project requirements. For ASTM D178 mats, thicknesses range from 3.2 mm (Class 0) to 12.7 mm (Class 4).

Both standards cover Class 0 to Class 4, working voltages from 1.0 kV to 36.0 kV. IEC 61111:2009 is the international standard referenced in MEW specifications and most Kuwaiti utility and infrastructure projects. ASTM D178 is the American standard, specified for oil and gas projects and international contractor specifications that reference American norms. If your project specification names one standard, we supply that range. If unspecified, IEC 61111:2009 is the correct default for Kuwait.
