Electrical Insulating Mats are a must needed industrial safety product because they provide complete insulation to the floorings for areas prone to electrical leakage like substations, panel switchboards, transformer & generator rooms. They help to make the world a safer place for the personnel by protecting them from potential electrical hazards while also enhancing the aesthetics of the workplace environment.
To maintain your insulation mats in excellent condition, here are the steps you need to know for installing them properly:
Step-1: Subfloor preparation
Ensure to properly clean the subfloor because it is one of the most crucial part of the entire procedure. Further, it should be dried to remove any trapped moisture content, correctly levelled and then freed from any cracks. Select appropriate filling material that doesn’t cause any obstruction in the fixing of the insulating mats and ensures that the floor surface is even by using cement based screeds. The subfloor should never be contaminated with plaster, paint, or any other substance that may impact the adhesives used.
Additionally, if required, a special coat of water proofing can be used for ensuring zero moisture & dryness and protecting the insulating mat from any sort of damage. Always measure the moisture content in sub floors by using rH meters as per the relevant standards of your country. According to the prevalent ASTM Standards, the sub-floor’s relative humidity must never be above 75% R.H.
Step-2: Adhesive Application
Use Fevicol SR 998 which is most suitable to fix up insulating mats. It’s not at all advisable to apply any other adhesive as it may compromise upon product characteristics. Apply a coat of SR 998 upon both the floor surface and back of the insulation mat using a clean brush. Wait for 5-10mins to ensure that the applied surface is partly dry. It’s done for ensuring the bonding between floor & the insulating mat is effective.
Step-3: Mat placement
Begin to paste the mat on to the floor very carefully within a linear direction in a proper manner. Continue until the entire mat is placed.
Step-4: Roller Application
Once the mat is placed apply pressure using a roller and leave the mat for 7 days to dry. In case you don’t have a roller, no worries, you can use weights to ensure proper pressure to evenly place the mats by eliminating any entrapped air. You are done.
